A Women's Mixtecan Weaving Group in Richmond
Abstract: A group of Mixtecs, indigenous Mexicans who speak their own indigenous language and have different cultural norms than main-stream Mexican society, have been immigrating to Richmond in the past ten years. Because of the group's indigenous status, they have often faced different and more difficult issues than other. In an attempt to address some of these issues, service providers in the area created a weaving group for the Mixtecan women. The methods and effects of the group are the focus of this study.
