Oh You Know: An Exploration of Street Art

Abstract: I have researched and studied various kinds of traditional painting, drawing and print making as well as various street/graffiti techniques and materials, such as spray painting, stencils and markers on found and used surfaces. I have combined these techniques and materials in my work. My project is called "Oh You Know" or "OYK." "Oh you know" is a representation of turning the everyday turned into the extraordinary. My work is characterized by bold and gloomy imagery with elements of graphic design. I have worked on found surfaces of various sizes. It is my goal to challenge the traditional (and stereotypical) ideas and setting for graffiti by presenting my work, framed, on canvases in a gallery. I believe the juxtaposition of "fine art" and "graffiti art" materials and techniques has resulted edgy but catchy social commentary on art, popular culture and sub-culture, among other things.
