Research Training
Faculty Members: Register for the SMARTS grants notification system in your office in 30 minutes or less.
The SMARTS software is a product of InfoEd, a grants service to which the University of Richmond subscribes. The InfoEd software suite consists of three main components:
- SPIN -- one of the most widely used databases of funding opportunities.
- GENIUS -- a web-based database containing profiles of scholars and their research interests. This element of the software can promote research collaboration as it is a searchable registry of faculty expertise.
- SMARTS -- an automated alert system that notifies scholars of new programs and grant opportunities that match their selected keywords or GENIUS profiles. A SMARTS profile must be set up and validated by the University. Contact Kirk Jonas to set up a SMARTS profile.
Faculty members should contact Kirk Jonas if they are interested in a training and registration session in their offices. Either contact Kirk by email or call 484-1565 for a brief introduction to the software. The overview of the software, including registration for receipt of grant notices, can be accomplished in your office in less than 30 minutes. More technical training on different elements of the software is also available upon request.
General information on the InfoEd suite of software can be accessed at http://www.infoed.org/. Information is also available through the homepage of the University Office of Foundation, Corporate, and Government Relations at http://oncampus.richmond.edu/academics/grants/grants.html
